For those who have not heard of Star Citizen before, this is a futuristic sci-fi space game envisioned by Chris Roberts who is perhaps mostly known for bringing us the legendary Wing Commander series. It aims for unparalleled immersion, details and graphics. Star Citizen is a “First Person Universe” right from the start. It isn’t like other space sims where you are “playing” a ship. In SC you’re controlling a character who is flying a ship.

The game will include a massive variety of gameplay options. Whether you prefer to be a trader, mercenary, farmer, explorer; create an epic legacy for yourself as a grand admiral or hated criminal; or if you just want to log on and jump on the first ship that hires crew and go places you’ve never been to before, Star Citizen is the game for you.
Have you ever wanted Spaceship Combat, FPS and Extravehicular Activity (EVA) all in one seamless experience?
If you have any questions feel free to PM any of the following: Purestorm, Gun Pow or Irathi.
Table of contents
1. Why now?
Star Citizen (SC) recently launched what they call Alpha 2.0 or the “mini PU”. Each month a new iteration will be released. The mini PU release sets the stage for Star Citizen’s persistent universe, offering players access to multi-crew ships, large world maps and FPS combat for the first time. Citizens can look forward to additional ships, locations and game mechanics being built on top of this foundation as development progresses. Mini PU offers your first taste of Star Citizen’s living, breathing world.
In other words this is the cradle from which the final universe will emerge.
BRTD considers this to be the right time to start getting more involved and begin the process of carving out a name and reputation for ourselves in the verse.
As for rumours about SC being an expensive game that requires you to dump a lot of money into it, this is simply false. The game is best experienced by purchasing the basic Star Citizen starter pack for 45$ or the SC+Squadron 42 combo for 60$ (SQ42= solo player campaign), and then earn money in-game for new ships.
BRTD already has a huge fleet of ships that require crew and thus we need you to crew / borrow our big ships rather than go purchase your own. So no additional payment is required beyond the pack that you choose.
2. How to get into SC
To get into SC you have to buy a game package. But before you go ahead and do that, please use one of the following referral codes when you create your account. This code will grant you an additional 5.000 United Earth Credit (UEC), up from the standard 1.000 UEC that comes with the beginners pack. The codes belong to Irathi, ChipMHazard, Purestorm and GunPow. For fairness I will not tell you which one belongs to who (shuffled order every now and then).

Regardless of your choice of starter pack, you are in no way stuck with it. You can upgrade or exchange it for store credit and buy a new one. If you want to start with a 45$ pack and then upgrade to the 60$ pack later on, you can. So don't worry.
*members of BRTD might have a 45$ pack available for sale that includes both SC and SQ42, check this thread out for info.
Clicking the below images will offer you two different starter ships, BRTD recommendation is the SC+SQ42 Aurora MR Combo for 60$, while slower than the Mustang it is a more multi-purpose built ship for both combat and trade.

3. BRTD in SC
SC offers you the option to create different types of “outfits”. The archetypes are: Organization, Corporation, PMC (private military company), Faith and Syndicate. This prompted the need for defining what BRTD would be in SC.
Better Red Than Dead [BRTD] led by Purestorm in SC, has a militaristic history from Planetside and that will continue as a PMC in SC. The main traits/activities being Militaristic and Trade.
The BRTD manifesto reads as follows;
However in order to reach the set goals we require not only fighters and economic might, but also a well organized support system. As such we’ve seen the need for a sister organization that might attract more players who prefer that style of gameplay.
Silver Wolf [SILVERWOLF] led by Gun Pow in SC, Silver Wolf is a strictly no-piracy Corporation where we intend to set the ambience and facilitate for casual Role Play for those that want to. Activities will be based around Exploration, Support and Trade. The wolf logo serving as a direct link to BRTD history.
This Corporation is currently being fleshed out but expect to hear more news in the coming weeks.
With different focuses on gameplay and immersion BRTD and SILVERWOLF will, combined, achieve superiority. In practice, members are able to choose which one they want as their main and which to be their affiliated association. The forums will be the same, but during regular gameplay players may choose to hang out in the normal channels or the dedicated RP one. During ops, however, we will utilise a similar setup as the one currently in PS2: Reaper, Airwing and Armour Division.
4. What you can do in the mini PU
As previously mentioned this game is just out of the cradle and new features are being brought into the game rapidly. As such, this won’t go into too much detail as it would need updating every other day. In short you can now fly around in an open universe with your friends, you can do space combat, first person combat, missions, explore and you can even board other players’ ships and take them over! It is already a thoroughly entertaining experience to fly these multi-crew ships and go explore the abandoned space stations with an eerie atmosphere or go fight some Vanduul and then head to a repair facility and watch the drones do their magic.
For CIG’s own list of features check this page out; https://robertsspaceindustries.com/feature-list
For a quick guide to 2.1 check this video out;
5. Squadron 42
Squadron 42 takes place before the current time in SC. Here you take on the role of a rookie UEE (United Earth Empire) Navy combat pilot in a cinematic single-player epic adventure powered by CryEngine, which use stunning motion capture and feature actors like Gary Oldman and Mark Hamil.
For more info check out SQ42's site;
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/squadron42
As you play through squadron 42 you earn citizenship which gives you bonuses (like legally able to fly a capital ship and carry certain weapons on planets). Citizenship can be purchased, but why not earn it in a military career with the UEE in a massive three-part story-driven epic from the man who made Wing Commander and Freelancer.
Watch General Bishop (Gary Oldman) as he delivers his rallying speech and demonstrates the fidelity of the graphics.
One of the capital ships is the Idris Frigate, watch “The Morrow Tour” where they walk us through the Stanton frigate from SQ42;
