I do not want to complain. It is that the animation of the background fading in and out every 5 sec, it is TOO MUCH. It takes away the focus from the center of the page.

Could you guys please set it to swap at something much more higher like 4 minutes, or disable it?

I am talking as web designer. Anything moving around the page it is counterproductive to the task at hands, on which is reading and writing in the forum.

Hey Juggernaut, thx to move the post. I was looking for the right place and I never know where to put the post.

No I am not joking. In the matter of usability, when you are focused on a task, anything that distract from that task it counter productive. We measure that kind of things for normally e-commerce with analytics or by putting people doing task and having feedbacks. By experience I can tell you that anything MOVING in the page (banners, animations and other stuff) if not doing subtly, it is annoying for the experience of the user in doing the task at hands.

4 minutes it means that you will be interrupted just once every 4 min. On which it is reasonable as distraction. Anyway we need to talk in matter of minutes not seconds. The amount I believe that should be at WORST of 2 min at least. It is matter of testing and see how does it feels.

Now, I understand that you do not want to change it (I saw your initial reply "Nope" :D :p ). But that is just matter of opinions. Opinions are not good for this kind of things. Let me find you some info about it.

This is the TOP WEBSITE for once was called Human Interaction Technology

One of the best web magazine about web design, check on: "keep animation at minimum"

Point 2
http://www.problogdesign.com/general-tips/30-bad-practices-of-web-designers/

http://james.padolsey.com/javascript/usability-animation/

Read the point that say "keep your background simple"
http://www.angelfire.com/super/badwebs/

Example of the white snoflakes
http://www.freemarketingzone.com/website-design/bad-background-design.html

Anyway. If the reason of doing this it is because we are adding Star Citizien. Than Take the background and design half of it as PS and the other half as SC. So it remains static. Problem solved.

Ask other people opinion. It depends as well what is your ratio of content vs backround visible in your monitor. Mine it is quite substantious I have 16:9 proportion.

I swear. I take this matter very very seriously it is my damn work and I hate bad web design practices

I noticed that the background is changing, but I didn't matter. And it didn't take my focus away from what I'm doing atm either.

And after reading your post @PallaDiLardo..................it still doesn't matter that it keeps changing.

I instead found very difficult to do any tasks. My eyes keep being distracted and it is incredibly frustrating. So much that I am writing on a notepad, and copy and paste to do not waste time on the forum.

4 minutes is far too much. Most people won't even see the transition, because they would've changed the page by then.

To be perfectly fair, how distracting the image is is completely subjective. I honestly do not find it distracting in the slightest. We had this discussion before shortly after we added the transition, no one was particularly bothered by it.

I'll be frank, it shouldn't be more than a minute. Most people browsing threads won't be on a single page for more than a minute most of the time.

I feel this "civilized conversation" is turning into a argument.

In this situation it is up to @Juggernaut to decide these aspects of the website. Don't get me wrong you have clearly and correctly inputted your opinion, and, it has be read and taken into consideration. As @Juggernaut said he's changed it. That's that. I am only saying this to end and further discussion.

As anything it depends on how you dose the effect or visual. For example the signature animated is not bothersome.

I had another idea, offering a suggestion: it is possible to load a background randomly between 2 different set of backgrounds. And load one or the other for any loaded page randomly.
