Mumble overlay only works in 64bit Mumble 1.3.0 beta.

*note: do not enable show FPS counter and Show Clock

Video Guide

Written Guide

1. Go to mumble.info

2. Go to Download Mumble and download the latest Windows 64 bit Snapshot

In this Guide, you will be able to configure Mumble overlay. This will allow you to position it where you want it and set how it looks. Mumble overlay is a very useful tool in PVP games, as it is easier to see who is talking in-game and not have to Alt-tab to Mumble to see who is talking.

The first step is to click on "Configure and then To set" button in mumble
Click "Overlay" tab in the Configure setting area

To move the users, Drag the little Red Dot
To resize the users, use the mouse wheel on a user

Then Right click on a user and click on "Filter --> Only talking"
You can also un-tick "Alway show yourself" if you do not want to see yourself in the overlay.
Hopefully, you will find Mumble easy to use and enjoy using it as I do.
If you have any questions, Please post them here.

Nope, planetside 2 keep changing the DLL file relating to the overlay in every planetside 2 patch, so the mumble team have more or less given up for now. that was last time i read up on it.

Wonder if they could steal a trick off TS...

Also, I read that forcing 32 bit isn't possible after the latest patch or something...

It would be nice to have the overlay working. But soon or later I am sure it will be working :)

It's very unlikely atm. The reason why the overlay isn't working is because the 64x bit client with DirextX11 (I believe) PS2 is using isn't supported by the current mumble version. Which means the overlay will first work again when:
a) The guys at mumble starts supporting 64xbit for DirectX11.
b) PS2 updates its DirectX version to 12 (which they said a few days ago) would be too much of a hassle, compared to how few it would benefit and how many low end specc pcs that would be left out.
Therefor the chance of getting the mumble overlay to work in PS2 is very very slim atm.
(Unless you bruteforce the client back to 32xbit).

The OverWolf-team are or have been looking into implementing Mumble, due to high numbers of people asking for it. But that was a year ago, I think.

It's possible that with the new SDK that someone else could develop something for it. We are aware that many people want us to add support for Mumble as it's the 3rd highest request on our feature request site.We would love to be able to bring it to you guys, but it will take time ( I know, the SoonTM card that no one likes, but it's true).

I'll will leave this with ye, unfortunately I don't have the time or the technical skill to do this. Only a server admin.

I can't get it to work for some reason but I have theory that it could be that Steam is interfering somehow.

Remember to tick Only talking otherwise you will too many to display on screen.

  • Then right click on a user and click on filter, click Only talking
  • You can also un-tick Alway show yourself if you wish.
